Tere khayalon mai
{Bb}
Beete yeh raatein
{F}
Dil mera maangein
{Gm}--------{Cm}
Ek hi dua ….
{Cm}---{F}
Tu samne ho aur
{Bb}
Karun mai baatein
{F}
Lamha rahe yun
{Gm}
Thehra hua
{D#}--{F}
Pahle to kabhi yun
{F}-----{Cm}
Mujhko na aisa kuch hua
{Cm}------{Bb}------{F}
Deewani lahron ko
{F}-----{Cm}
Jaise sahil mila

What is the meaning of the time signature?

What is the meaning of the time signature?

1. The time signature is a measuring device. The upper number tells how many,
or its equivalent, of the bottom number there are in each measure. It has
nothing to do with “time.”
2. The time signature does not represent beats. There are different kinds of beats,
that can only be determined by looking at notation and feeling the flow of
macrobeats, microbeats, and rhythm patterns.
3. It is not necessary to look at the time signature to determine meter. By looking
at notation, one can tell if the music moves in two, three, or something else.
Time Signatures.

Macrobeats, microbeats, and rhythm pattern categories.

Macrobeats, microbeats, and rhythm pattern categories.

1. Macrobeats and microbeats are not tied to note names or time signatures,
but refer to tempo beats and meter beats.
2. A rhythm pattern has a minimum of two underlying macrobeats.
The “typical” rhythm pattern has four underlying macrobeats.
3. Three rhythm elements must work together simultaneously to create a strong,
consistent rhythmic performance: macrobeats, microbeats, and rhythm patterns.
Macrobeats and microbeats provide the context (meter) for rhythm patterns.
4. Rhythm patterns are chanted while audiating or moving to underlying
macrobeats (tempo beats) and microbeats (meter beats).
5. Rhythm patterns are functional, meaning that they are separated into
meaningful categories. Learning rhythm patterns in sequential categories
provides a way to recognize and remember music when listening, performing,
creating, or reading notation.
6. Music staff notation of rhythm is enrhythmic: a rhythm pattern can be
notated different ways and still sound the same.
7. The six rhythm pattern categories are:
1) Macrobeat and microbeat
2) Divisions
3) Division-elongations and elongations
 4) Rest
5) Tie
6) Upbeat

What we need to know about tempo and meter.

What we need to know about tempo and meter.

1. The large beat, or macrobeat, is what we feel to be the tempo beat.
2. Meter is determined by splitting the macrobeat into parts. Move to the
macrobeat by swaying from side to side using heel movement. For duple
meter, split the macrobeat into two parts (two hand touches). For triple
meter, split the macrobeat into three parts (three hand touches).
3. The macrobeat (tempo beat or pulse) in all meters is “Du.” Duple meter
microbeats (meter beats) are “Du-de” and triple meter microbeats (meter beats)
are “Du-da-di.” Anything between microbeats that is not a macrobeat is a “ta.”
Unusual meters of five and seven simply change the “d” sound of microbeats
to a “b” sound. An example of music moving in five is “Du-be Du-ba-bi.”
The rhythm pattern syllable system is based on beat function rather than
note value names.
4. To read rhythm, first decide what note value you will use for the macrobeat.
Then name the note values that will be the microbeats and divisions. This
alignment, macrobeat-microbeat-divisions, is referred to as a “rhythm tree.”

What is the difference between sound and staff notation?

What is the difference between sound and staff notation?
Music notation is complex. We must learn the difference between “sound”
and“staff ” notation. “Staff ” notations may look the same but sound different.
Or “staff ” notations may look different, but sound the same.
For example, the same two music staff notes can be “Do-Re” or Mi-Fa,” which
sound different when in the context of a tonality.
In addition, the notes can be flat, sharp, natural, double-sharp, or double-flat.
All may be on the same line-space arrangement on the music staff.
Enrhythmic (rhythm) and enharmonic (tonal) patterns look different
but sound the same.
Music is notated by the way a composer wants the music to look on the
printed page.
Our understanding of patterns and how notation works is essential for fluent
reading of music notation.

What are labels?

What are labels?

Labels are names that we use for communication. When we know something
by its name, or label, we can recognize it and talk about it.
Students must learn labels in order to recognize, apply, and remember patterns.
Labels include: major, minor, tonic, dominant, macrobeat, microbeat, duple,
triple, and so forth.

How do we learn patterns?

How do we learn patterns?

There is a learning sequence to pattern instruction. Students first learn
patterns, in the context of a meter or tonality, on a neutral syllable,
such as “bah” for rhythm patterns and “bum” for tonal patterns.
After neutral syllable patterns become familiar, these same patterns are learned
with rhythm and tonal syllables. Thus, a familiar pattern vocabulary is acquired.
It is important to know that:
1. Rhythm and tonal patterns are learned separately.
2. Patterns are always learned within the context of a meter or a tonality.
3. Rhythm patterns are chanted without pitch.
4. Tonal patterns are sung without rhythm.
5. To build a personal vocabulary, a student must first echo the pattern
with the teacher, then, if the student echos the pattern correctly, the
student should echo the pattern alone. With this learning process,
the student will gain ownership of individual pattern.

What are music patterns?

What are music patterns?

It may seem at first that any music teacher or music student should be able
to create rhythm and tonal patterns.
In fact, it is possible to create a rhythm and tonal pattern learning sequence
if one follows Gordon’s theories for developing a pattern vocabulary.
Creating appropriate pattern sequences takes time and an understanding
of how patterns are specifically created for the purpose of building
audiation skills.

How can we use an acquired music vocabulary?

How can we use an acquired music vocabulary?
When we have personal ownership of a functional music vocabulary,
we are able to anticipate, predict, and remember the organization
of a musical work.
We can learn music quickly because we have the tools, meaning music
vocabulary, to understand music.
Most importantly, we can enjoy and understand music because our music
vocabulary has provided us with the foundation to audiate.

What is a music vocabulary?

What is a music vocabulary?
A music vocabulary consists of organized and categorized rhythm
and tonal rhythm patterns within the context of a meter or a tonality.
When we think about it, we realize that music has a recognizable tonal
and rhythm pattern organization that makes sense. Music has syntax.
It sounds too good to be true, but the fact is that rhythm and tonal
patterns are the foundation for building audiation skills.

How do we learn to audiate?

How do we learn to audiate?

Remember how we learned to speak language?
Music learning is much like language learning.
We listen, think/audiate, speak/perform, improvise, read, and write.
During this sequential process, we acquire a personal vocabulary.

What is audiation?

What is audiation?

Audiation, simply defined, means to listen to and perform music
with understanding.
Because music is a listening and a performing art, learning how
to audiate is an important part of the music learning process.
Everyone has the potential to audiate, or “think,” music.
The ability to audiate is fundamental for music achievement.

Why are rhythm and tonal patterns important?

Why are rhythm and tonal patterns important?

Rhythm and tonal patterns are a music vocabulary.
With this music vocabulary we are able to give meaning to music.
We learn to read, write, listen to, perform, compose,
and improvise music using rhythm and tonal patterns.
Patterns are the building blocks for developing musicianship
and music literacy.
Activities using rhythm and tonal patterns develop audiation skills.

Flute Or Bansuri Lessons.

Flute Or Bansuri Lessons.

A how to on playing Indian Classical music on Bansuri. This is a beginners guide. that will be help them.
Bansuri Lesson
The Notes
Do Re Mi Fa So La Ti Do (A relative scale)
Bansuri use a relative scale, similar to the 'do, re, mi' concept. The notes are not measured in
pitch (hertz), but are in relation to the first note. Western scales are usually 'absolute', based
on 'A = 440 hertz' and 'middle C' which is 261.626 hertz, so that each note is measurable and
can easily be repeated anywhere around the world, on any properly tuned instrument. This is
possible because 'hertz' are measurable units of vibrations per second. Relative scales can
start anywhere, so ' do ' might be 'C' or it might be any other note or a note that is unrelated to
western pitch. Furthermore, the notation system is based on finger position, rather than tone.
What this means is that;
Songs can be played on any bansuri, regardless of flute length. Key is not a constraint. The
same tune will sound different on 2 flutes of different keys, but the playing and notation
method will not change. The `notes` represent finger positions, not tones.
Bansuri have 6 playable holes (usually), and the basic scale starts with the top 3 holes
closed. This note is ' Sa'. The basic scale is as follows; (I have added rainbow colours for
ease of visualization).
Sa Re Ga ma Pa Da Ni Sa
Sa (Top 3 holes closed)
Re (Top 2 holes closed)
Ga (Top hole closed)
ma (Top hole half closed - I use a small 'm ' here, because there is also ' Ma '.)
Pa (6 holes closed)
Da (Top 5 holes closed)
Ni (Top 4 holes closed)
From this point we will reach Sa one octave above our starting note, with the same finger position as we started with, 3 holes closed. The upper octave is reached by changing your
mouth shape (embouchure) which refocuses the air. Bansuri can play two to two and a half
octaves, more on this later!
The Notation System
We need one system for the lower octave, one for the middle octave and another for the
upper octave.
For the lower octave, we write;
,S ,R ,G ,m ,P ,D ,N
However, bansuri cannot play the first 4 of these notes, and so you will not see them notated
in bansuri music. The first complete scale on the bansuri starts in the 'mid octave' at S.
The full basic scale is;
S R G m P D N
Even though this scale is notated without lower or upper octave marks, on bansuri, the first 4
notes are made by blowing the lower octave, but to reach the next 3 notes you will have to
alter your embouchure to find the next octave for those finger positions. This seems counter
intuitive at first, but makes sense if you keep in mind that the scale begins with 3 holes
closed.
'S 'R 'G 'm 'P 'D 'N are used for the octave above.
Half notes (called 'Komal Swara') are frequently played, and are notated using small letters
(lower case alphabet), as in 'ma ' in the basic scale.
,d (Five and half holes closed, lower octave)
,n (Four and a half holes closed, lower octave)
r (Two and a half holes closed, lower octave)
g (One and a half holes closed, lower octave)
m (Half a hole closed, lower octave) * Although this note is a half note, it is not considered
'Komal Swara, as it is included in the natural scale.
M (All holes are open, lower octave) * The natural scale is played with the note 'm ' as a half
closed note. But sometimes scales will call for this note to played totally open. This is
notated as ' M '. So during the practice sessions, if you see 'm ' you will know this is ma
played with the first hole half closed, and ' M ' is played with the first hole totally open.
Songs can be notated without an indication of octave, or showing S rather than ,S for the sake
of ease. Songs are handed directly from teacher to student by playing rather than as a score,
so the notation system is not always 100% accurate.
Common student flutes are tuned to Sa = G or shorter, such as G#. These flutes are short enough for most beginners to be able to play. Most concert flutes are Sa = E, but these are
longer and require more skill to play. Longer flutes have deeper notes but lack the
responsiveness and expression of higher flutes. For children (aged between 7 - 14), a Sa = C
is a suitable sized flute.

Thaat's, Indian Music System.

THAAT Or THAT, The Indian Music System.

Description of ten basic thāts
The 10 basic thāts, according to the Bhatkhande system, are as follows:

1. Bilawal
Bilawal is the most basic of all the ten thaats. All the swars in the thaat are shuddha or all
swars in the natural scale. Bilawal as a raag is not rendered these days however a small
variation of the raag called Alhaiya Bilaval is very common. This is a morning raag and its
pictorial descriptions create a rich, sensuous ambience in consonance with its performance.
Raags in Bilawal Thaat : Deskar, Hamsadhwani, Bihag, etc.
2. Khamaj
The next thaat is Khamaj which can be obtained by replacing the Shuddha Nishad of Bilawal
by Komal Nishad. The raags of this thaat are full of Shringar Ras (romantic) hence this raag is
mostly rendered in the form of light classical thumris, tappas, horis, kajris etc. Its pictorial
descriptions in the existing texts are sensuous and even today, the raag Khamaj is considered
to be a 'flirtatious' raag. There is a theory which assumes that in the past, Khamaj scale found
its way in Ch'in music of the late medieval China.
Raags in Khamaj Thaat : Rageshree, Jhinjhoti, Des, Tilak Kamod, Jaijaiwanti, Khambavati, etc.
3. Kafi
Kafi thaat makes use of the Komal Gandhar and Komal Nishad. So basically it adds Komal
Gandhar to the Khamaj Thaat. raag Kafi is one of the oldest raags and its intervals are
described as basic scale of the Natyashastra. Thus in ancient and medieval times, Kafi was
considered as natural scale. Kafi is a late evening raag and said to convey the mood of spring
time.
Raags in Kafi Thaat : Dhanashree, Dhani, Bhimpalasi, Pilu, Megh Malhar, Bageshree, etc.
4. Asavari
Add Komal Dhaivat to Kafi thaat and you get Asavari thaat. Raag Asavari is full of tyag, the
mood of renunciation and sacrifice as well as pathos. It is best suited for late morning.
However important evening/night raags like Darbari and Adana also use notes of Asavari
thaat with different styles, stress points and ornamentations.
Raags in Asavari Thaat : Asavari, Desi, Darbari, Adana, Jaunpuri, etc.
5. Bhairavi
Bhairavi makes use of all the komal swars, Rishabh, Gandhar, Dhaivat, Nishad. When singing
compositions in Bhairavi raag, the singers however take liberty to use all the 12 swars.
Bhairavi raag is named after the shakti or feminine aspect of the cosmic life force, which is personified as a consort to Lord Shiva. Bhairavi is a powerful raag filled with devotion and
compassion. Bhairavi is actually performed early in the morning in a peaceful, serious and
occasionally sad mood. Traditionally it is rendered as the last item of a program, for its
unique fullness of sentiments as well as its wide scope of the tonal combinations. Pictorially,
Bhairavi is represented in female form, as the wife of Bhairav.
Raags in Bhairavi Thaat : Malkauns, Bilaskhani Todi, Bhupali Todi, Kaunsi Kanada, etc.
6. Bhairav
Bhairav thaat raags make use of Komal Rishabh and Komal Dhaivat. Bhairav is one of the
names of Lord Shiva especially in his powerful form as a naked ascetic with matted locks
and body smeared with ashes. The raag too has some of these masculine and scetic
attributes in its form and compositions. The raag itself is extremely vast and allows a huge
number of note combinations and a great range of emotional qualities from valor to peace.
There are many variations on raag Bhairav including (but not restricted to) Ahir Bhairav, Alam
Bhairav, Anand Bhairav, Bairagi Bhairav, Beehad Bhairav, Bhavmat Bhairav, Devata Bhairav,
Gauri Bhairav, Nat Bhairav, Shivmat Bhairav. This raag is usually performed in a devotional
mood in the early morning hours. The vibrations of the notes in Bhairav is said to clear one's
whole mind. The pictorial depictions of raag Bhairav in the ancient texts are austere as well
as awe-inspiring. [ according to whom? ]
Raags in Bhairav Thaat : Ramkali, Gunkari, Meghranjani, Jogiya, Bhairav, etc.
7. Kalyan
Kalyan thaat consists of an important group of evening raags. Characterized by the teevra
Madhyam, this thaat literally means good luck. It is considered to be a blessing-seeking and
soothing raag. As a result, it is performed in the evening at the beginning of a concert. This
raag creates a feeling of the unfolding of an evening. This thaat is huge and consists of many
variations on the basic kalyan thaat including raags (but not restricted to) like Shuddha
Kalyan, Shyam Kalyan, Yaman Kalyan, Anandi Kalyan, Khem Kalyan (Haunsdhwani + Yaman),
Savani Kalyan etc.
Raags in Kalyan Thaat : Yaman, Hindol, Kedar, Kamod, etc.
8. Marwa
Marwa thaat is obtained by adding a komal Rishabh to Kalyan thaat. The mood of the Marwa
family raags is strongly and easily recognizable. The Shadja remains in the form of a shadow
till the very end, where it almost comes as a surprise. komal Rishabh and shuddha Dhaivat
are very important. The overall mood of this raag is of sunset where the night approaches
much faster than in northern latitudes. The onrushing darkness awakens in many observers, a
feeling of anxiety and solemn expectation.
Raags in Marwa Thaat : Marwa, Puriya, Bhatiyaar, Bibhas, Sohoni, etc.
9. Poorvi
Poorvi thaat adds a komal Dhaivat to Marwa thaat. These thaat raags usually feature komal Rishabh, shuddha Gandhar and Shuddha Nishad along with teevra Madhyam, the note which
distinguishes evening from the morning raags (dawn and sunset). The thaat raag Poorvi is
deeply serious quite and mysterious in character and is performed at the time of sunset.
Pictorial depictions in early texts, often mention the poise, grace and charm of Poorvi.
Raags in Poorvi Thaat : Puriya Dhanashree, Gauri, Shree, Paraj, Basant, etc.
10. Todi
Todi has komal re, ga, and dha, as well as teevra Ma. Raag Todi represents the mood of
delighted adoration with a gentle, loving sentiment and its traditionally performed in the late
morning.
Raags in Todi Thaat : Miyan Ki Todi, Gujari Todi, Madhuvanti, Multani, etc.
Thāt and time of performance
Ragas are normally ascribed to certain periods of the day and night (See
Samay). Narada's Sangita-Makaranda , written sometime between 7th and 11th century, gives
warnings to musicians against playing ragas at the incorrect time of day. Traditionally,
disastrous consequences are to be expected. [6] Bhatkhande stated that the correct time to
play a raga had a relation to its thāt (and to its vadi ).

Major scale piano chords Formula

Major scale piano chords Formula

Formula of Major Scale for playing piano chord.
In this lesson we shall learn about all twelve major keys. First of all let’s talk about how one forms a major scale.
I have 2 formula for playing piano chord.
Formula No1 :
Formula no1 is  "1-5-8"
Like that For C scale: C E G,   =1 5 8, that means C=1,E=5, G=8.
C__C#__D__D#__E__F__F#__G__G#.....
1__2___3___4___5__6__7____8__9......

If you take D scale: D F# A = 1 5 8,  That means D=1, F#=5, A=8.
D__D#__E___F___F#__G__G#__A__A#.......
1___2___3___4___5___6___7___8___9......

If you take E scale: E G# B = 1 5 8,  That means E=1, G#=5, B=8.
E__F__F#__G__G#__A___A#___B__C'.......
1__2__3___4___5____6___7____8__9......
You can build any major scale using the formula, 1 5 8. You can start on any note and simply follow this formula.
If you don't understand formula no1, hare are formula no2.

Formula No2:
The formula for a major scale is whole-whole-half-whole-whole-whole-half . What does this mean? It means that on your piano keyboard, you move from a whole step, to a whole step, to a half step, to a whole step, to a whole step, to a whole step, and finally to a half step. A whole step is 2 half steps.
Let’s take the C major scale for example. To form a C major scale you move from C to D, a whole step. Then from D to E, another whole step. You go from E to F, a half step. Then from F to G, a whole step. G to A is a whole step. A to B is a whole step. Lastly, you move from B to C, a half step.
You can build any major scale using the formula, whole-whole-half-whole-whole-whole-half. You can start on any note and simply follow this formula.

Minor scale piano chords Formula

Minor scale piano chords Formula
Formula of Minor Scale for playing piano chord.
Minor chords are represented by the symbols “m”, “min” and “-“. For example, Bm, Bmin and B- all mean the same, although, B- is less common than the other two.
A minor triad can also be described as a minor third
interval with a major third interval on top. For instance, for the chord A minor (Am), the interval from A to C is a minor third interval, while the interval from C to E is a major third interval.
Along with major chords, minor chords are the first type of chords one learns as a piano or keyboard student. They are among the most basic and easiest of chords to play on the piano. When learning to play piano, start with major then move to minor triads or chords.
This type of chord is called a
triad due to the fact that it has only these three notes: a root, a minor third and a perfect fifth. For example, the chord A minor consists of the root note, A, a minor third, C, and a perfect fifth, E. The minor third is 3 half steps above the root note, while the perfect fifth is 7 half steps above the root note, or 4 half steps above the minor third.
In this lesson we shall learn about all twelve minor keys. First of all let’s talk about how one forms a major scale.
I have 2 formula for playing minor piano chord.
Formula No1 :
Formula no1 is  "1-4-8"
Like that For C scale: C D# G,   =1 4 8, that means C=1, D#=4, G=8.
C__C#__D__D#__E__F__F#__G__G#.....
1__2___3___4___5__6__7____8__9......

If you take D scale: D F A = 1 4 8,  That means D=1, F=4, A=8.
D__E__F__F#__G__G#__A__A#__B.......
1__2__3___4__5____6__7____8__9......

If you take E scale: E G B = 1 4 8,  That means E=1, G=4, B=8.
E__F__F#__G__G#__A__A#__B__C'.......
1__2__3___4__5____6__7____8__9......

You can build any minor scale using the formula, 1 4 8. You can start on any note and simply follow this formula.
If you don't understand formula no1, hare are formula no2.

Formula No2:
To build a minor chord using semitones, start with the root note of the chord or the note which gives the chord its name. Then go three semitones higher than the root to get your second note. To get the third note in the chord, add the note that is 7 semitones higher than the root note. The formula is R + 3HS + 4 HS (root plus 3 half steps + 4 half steps).
If you already know to play a major chord, it’s very easy to play the minor. All you have to do is move that middle note, one semitone lower. For instance to make C major a minor chord, instead of playing C – E – G, play the note that is one semitone lower than E. Play the black key immediately to the left of E, the note, Eb (E flat). This results in the chord, C minor.

All Piano Chords and How to Build Them Complete and Correct lesson.

All Piano Chords and How to Build Them
Complete and Correct lesson.

Hi...

Welcome to  my blog World Music Centre YT. Here you learn how to build all kinds of chords in all keys. I shall start with major chords, then move to minor, diminished, augmented, dominant seventh, minor seventh, major seventh, minor sixth, major sixth chords and so on.

And then we move to more advanced ninth, eleventh and thirteenth chords.

At first you must see MAJOR CHORD FORMULA.

And than see MINOR CHORD FORMULA.

Major Piano Chords
How do you form a major chord on piano? A major chord is perhaps the simplest chord. It consists of three notes, the root, 3rd and 5th. Its symbol is “Maj”. For instance C major can be written “C Maj”.
1) C major – C E G
2) C sharp major – C♯ F G♯
3) D major – D F♯ A
4) E flat major – E♭ G B♭
5) E major – E G♯ B
6) F major – F A C
7) F sharp major – F♯ A♯ C♯
8) G major – G B D
9) A flat major – A♭ C E♭
10) A major – A C♯ E
11) Bb major – B♭ D F
12) B major – B D♯ F♯
Minor Piano Chords
A minor chord is formed by playing the root, flat 3rd and 5th of the scale. Its symbol is mi, -, or m. For instance, A minor can be written as Ami, A-, or Am. Am seems to be more common.
1) C minor – C E♭ G
2) C sharp minor – C♯ E G♯
3) D minor – D F A
4) E flat minor – E♭ G♭ B♭
5) E minor – E G B
6) F minor – F A♭ C
7) F sharp minor – F♯ A C♯

9) A flat minor – A♭ (B) E♭
10) A minor – A C E
11) B flat minor – B♭ D♭ F
12) B minor – B D F♯
Note: Major and minor chords are called triads . They are three note chords consisting of the root, the third and the fifth of the scale. In the case of a minor triad, a flat third is played.
Diminished Piano Chords
Diminished chords are triads as well, and consist of three notes, the root, flat third, and flat fifth of the scale. (root, ♭3rd, ♭5th) A diminished chord is represented by the symbols dim or °. For instance B diminished can be written as Bdim or B°.
1) C diminished – C E♭ G♭
2) C♯ diminished – C♯ E G
3) D diminished – D F A♭
4) E♭ diminished – E♭ G♭ A
5) E diminished – E G B♭
6) F diminished – F A♭ B
7) F♯ diminished – F♯ A C
8) G diminished – G B♭ D♭
9) A♭ diminished – A♭ C♭ D
10) A diminished – A C E♭
11) B♭ diminished – B♭ D♭ E
12) B diminished – B D F
Diminished Seventh Piano Chord.
In most sheet music books, C dim or C° denotes a diminished 7th chord . This chord consists of four notes, the root, flat third, flat fifth and double flat seventh of the scale. (root, ♭3rd, ♭5th, ♭♭7th) For instance, the notes of a Cdim7 or C°7 chord are C E♭ G♭ A. Here are all 12 diminished seventh chords.
